Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic modality involving the insertion of fine needles; it is an adaptation of traditional Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence based medicine. Acupuncture causes the release of natural pain-killing and healing chemicals within our bodies. In other words, acupuncture appears to help our bodies to heal themselves.
In our initial appointment we spend some time on assessment before starting treatment. In this 60 minute session we typically spend 30-40 mins on assessment, and 20-30 minutes needling and on other forms of treatment, which vary depending on your individual needs.Â
